An Afternoon with Bill Owens-Suburbia

Back in 1972 Bill Owens published the now classic ” Suburbia “, a collection of images of life in the ‘burbs as the population became greater outside of cities than in them.

One of the more interesting facts of this book is that he photographed these scenarios with definite vision of where he was going with the conclusion. Totally scripted in the approach. Mostly Black And White, the images depict the low stress life of the families who built a world outside of the congested cities.

I put my hair up once or twice a week. It’s the only way I can get curls in it. When it’s combed out, I’m willing to be seen in public

An Afternoon with Bill Owens will take place at the Pacific Design Center @ 3:00PM
It’s a MOCA Art Talk Presented by Gallery C

He is a very cool guy who also is a facinating speaker. Take a look at his site for a preview. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a past Photo LA (another reason to go to those events) and had a chance to chat with him about his work and life. Very approachable and just a good person.

The event is FREE too, so you can save some money and pick up one of his books and get it signed.
