in each of these explorations, Ms. Greenfield has shown a revealing portrait of her subjects as a true jounalist. There is always a revelation and an insight that draws you into the person’s life, yet makes no judgement.
I have always been drawn to her work and it is not until a 3rd or 4th viewing did I even venture a step outside of the photographs to imagine how she earned the trust of her subjects to bring out such honesty in the images.
She has now ventured into the world of film and has directed her first feature length film “THIN” being broadcast on HBO on November 14, at 9:00PM EST. check you local listing for specifics.

I have just screened the movie. Her artistry and style is intact.
The subject matter is a tough one as we follow the lives of girls with eating disorders being treated at a facility in Florida.
But Laurens treatment of her subjects is an honest and moving inside view into their lives.
Of course her photographs spoke volumes in a single frame, but her books gave a rich glimpse into the lives of her subjects
Her photographic style has translated to the screen in a new way as the women she reveals can now speak.
The entire show depends more on the portraits of the people than the problem/solution situation.
You get totally lost in the moment, while the intimacy you are witnessing never becomes perverse, but journalistic.
Ms. Greenfield cares about the women. That is obvious with the respect she shows them in this film.
Set your TIVOs or your calendars but see this film.

[...] Because it was directed by Ms. Greenfield. She has brought her specific sensibility in still photography to this documentary. Its so a strong piece, that even Access Hollywood, pop culture’s McNuggets, covered it tonight. Perhaps the Nicole Ritchies of the world bring a certain spotlight to this disorder. Read more here.
