Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to know a lot approximately this, such as you wrote the book in it or something. I believe that you can do with a few percent to power the message home a bit, however instead of that, that is excellent blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.

OK, spoke with the folks at Nikon, and yes, the lens barrel will only lock at the minimum length. It's a fix for some of the issue, but it would be a redesign to fix the other issue. I have had the same thing happen as you have, but have resigned myself to keeping a hand on the lens at the extreme angles.

You are correct, John. When I spoke with them about this, my main concern had been while having the lens on the camera, hanging from my shoulder, the lens would creep out to its full zoom, even at minimum length. This lock was a fix for that issue. It's a shame because it's perfect travel and all purpose lens, and the weight of the glass drags it down.
Tell you what, I'll contact them tomorrow to see what's up and respond back here, cool?

From your write up: " There is now a zoom lock that will keep your zoom choice in one place."

From Nikon's press release: ". . . Nikon enhanced construction to include a zoom lock switch, to allow photographers to secure the lens barrel at its minimum length. . . ."

So I guess as long as your zoom choice is minimum length, you're OK, right? My 18-200 doesn't creep when set to minimum length, but creep is bothersome when you're zoomed out some and shooting up or down at a sharp angle. It doesn't sound like Nikon has fixed this problem at all.
