Two Legends, One Exhibit : Walter Iooss and Neil Leifer – “Sport” at the Annenberg Space for Photography

The Annenberg Space for Photography is continuing on the fulfillment of their mission statement.
“Exhibit the various facets of the human condition, as seen through the medium of photography.”
Well, that’s how we see it, anyway.
This time it’s SPORT.
Not only the sports with the teams you may follow, but the excellence of seemingly super natural human beings whose athletic prowess, can leave you with a feeling of, what can only be described of, as awe. As in Olympians. Or perhaps Tiger Woods.
Two legendary sports photographers are exhibited here for the first time, at the Annenberg Space for Photography, with over 80 of their combined classic and iconic photographs of the world of sports, spanning almost 50 years.

We were treated to a first look at the videos that will be playing during the 4 month run.
You will get an incredible background on the photos, the process, and the men.
Today was the first time that both photographers saw the videos, and it was really an emotional experience for both of them.

And why not? A brilliantly produced, succinct look at 2 master photographers work, complete with interviews and testimonials.
Oh right, it’s THEIR lives!
We’re going back to watch them again.

You know how we prefer not to just tell you about things, and not show you, well, this time is no exception.
We shot 2 solo interviews with these men, and will be editing them shortly.
There were some insights that totally surprised us, and we hope you dig em when we are finished editing and post them in our Video Shorts section.

One thing was very very clear here: they have a mutual admiration society.

This has become one of our fave shots from today.

Here are 2 men who are responsible for so many of the iconic photographs of our lives, together in an exhibit for the first time.
We think they like the idea very much.

Check out the site for all of the festivities surrounding this exhibit: Seminars, sports legends, pre-Super Bowl Family events. If you are in LA , you can’t miss it.

  1. Sergio Garza says:

It is amazing to know these photographers and identify their pictures not just by name but to know their likes and challenges in the sports photography.

It´s been an honor to have the chance to admire their work in sports photography.
    Congrats, both Looss and Leifer.
