Re: Sites
I also recommend (for those of you who are overwhelmed by this list of links) that you use an RSS reader (like google reader) to aggregate all of this content and make it easy to consume without having to 1) remember or bookmark each of these sites and 2) visit all of these pages. A lot of these are fantastic references which I (still a student) use to maintain awareness of the industry.

Some of you may scoff at sites like ffffound or tumblr - but these are amazing tools which could serve as a great way to introduce your creatives into the digital space - designers, art directors, and copywriters alike will find this a veritable fountain of creative inspiration.

Re: Books
This is a great list to start off on but I believe that a subscription to both Wired Magazine and Fast Company serve as a good way to dive in and keep your finger on the pulse if the inustry and tech worlds. I also recommend expanding your reading horizons - Dan and Chip Heath's "Made to stick" is a great start - as are many of Malcom Gladwells works. If the advertising community starts expanding their minds and knowledge base, it will make us a force to be reckoned with in the future - rather than being the old guys wearing the 60's era suits in the room.

Re: Social Media
For Social Media the most important thing is immersion - get a group of people at your company to do it and foster community and use it as a communication tool before you start worrying about followers or cohesive branding. If you look at the Barbarian Blog you will see that it is very distinctly the haptic voice of the company - but every employee is encouraged and allowed to contribute.
