Here is a small sampling of things to see in and around Los Angeles this weekend:

Adam Bartos – Los Angeles

As we walked into the gallery we had a sense of comfort and serenity in the large format images of an LA story only sometimes told. The photographs allow you to experience the city in a another strangely familiar
way, without the standard exploitation of the obvious.

Jaxon House:
One of the city’s coolest new galleries is the Jaxon House. Located in the heart of Venice’s rapidly upscaling Abbot Kinney neighborhood, this oasis of a craftsman house showing some of the finest new work in town is a destination you shouldn’t miss.

Owned and curated by Melissa Ross, this gallery has shown some of our favorite artists this year and there is a healthy mix of painting and photography exhibits. Ms. Ross has an uncanny ability to consistently pick intriguing and completely hip shows.

The current one is no exception. The title of the show actually refers to the publishing company, Perceval, founded by Viggo Mortensen in 2002 . This is one to check out.
Quite a range of work and styles.

On a slightly different path is a fun show at The Museum of Television and Radio in Beverly Hills.
“Best Minutes of the Day: The Golden Age of Polaroid” a screening of Polaroid Commercials from the 50’s to 70’s. Endorsements came from James Garner, then unknown Ali McGraw and , yes, Laurence Olivier. As digital as we are now, it inspired me to bring out the old Polaroid ourselves, take some snaps , wait 60 secs. ,and then truly shake it like a …well you know the rest.
