www.lassalle.biz

I read another article about a transplanted French photographer who now lives in Boston.

She has all the official credentials, uses a 5dmk2 with all the proper glass that gearheads drool over, but she also has a photo journal she shares with her family and friends back in france. She exclusively uses her iPhone and hipstamatic.

The images are beautiful 6x6 frames of her interpretation of Boston. Plainly put - It's wonderful.

She not only has a great eye, She has an intended style which she achieves consistently using her phone.

I think it absolutely qualifies as photojournalism and should put another nail in the grave of the chirping traditionalists who can't get over the simplicity of the tool.

If you go to the URL I provided the photo blog is one of the top row links and it's called "my Boston diary"

Check it out and let me know what you think.

I think Mr. Winter defended himself well in the Lens article. His example of an award winning photo using B&W, vignetting and shallow depth of field is a great sample of photos not recreating what was actually there, yet still being accepted without question.

As he stated, we don't see in black and white or with vignettes yet for some reason if an app such as Hipstamatic applies similar effects it become less valid.

I applaud Mr. Witners and feel that any camera that can get the job done is the correct camera to use. App or no app.

I think it's fine to use whatever recording device you need to to capture your subject. While a phone may not be ideal it seems more than capable of taking the shots he wanted for this piece. And I agree -people don't freeze up when you're using a cell phone to capture a moment.

His shots are great. The apps and the phone do less to alter the reality of the shots Than where he was standing. As for the argument that he edited them too much - what he did isn't much different than picking film or desaturating something.
