8MP, HDR, Zoom Lens, HD Video, and can you hold for a sec? Another call coming in…..

We’re just about there.
When Sony announced that they would be supplying the next gen iPhone with an 8MP camera, how many camera manufacturers said “Gulp” ?
Forget those Wi-Fi SD cards or other transmission solutions, the smart phones in your hands now are just screaming ahead and getting better.

Need to take a quick shot and email the photo somewhere? The tool is in your hand.
Zoom out, or add a telephoto Extended 30x70mm lens to your camera…ummm, we mean phone…and you are doing the visual communication dance all over the place.

The amount of accessories available now for shooting smooth HD video with an iPhone, are multiplying. heck even Garret Brown, of stedicam fame has gotten into it: Steadicam Smoothee for iPhone 4

We just read an article about a family that used the iPad 2 for shooting their home movies while on vacation. It’s moving fast.

So where does that leave the simple point and shoot digital camera? Moving to the back of the pack we’re afraid.

No, we’re not ready to give up our little pocket wonders yet. The lens is still better, the choice of ISO’s is bigger, and we can play a slide show or movies through our TV’s thanks to an HDMI output on most.
But for how long? A manufacturer sees a bit into the future as they get ready for market.
It’s a long time between design and shelf.
The phone camera quality is getting better by leaps and bounds.

So when you think of the 3 Bears that met up with old Goldilocks, seems like we’ll be concentrating a bit more on the middle and largest bears.

The baby bear is still with us, now smarter than ever.
He can now make you a reservation, then order a sweet dish, instagram a photo, post it to Facebook, Foursquare the location, Yelp a review, tweet about the experience, and call ahead to the next stop.

So time to take a closer look at the middle. The G12’s, The P7000, PEN’s, NEX’s, the cameras that are too big for your pocket, but higher quality and more adjustable than your phone.

Don’t get us started on the big bears. If we can carry it, we’ll always go for the highest quality we can get.
