PhotoLA brings you a full roster of great photography dealers under one roof.

For the third venue in it’s history, PhotoLAis now at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica Airport. By far, the most user friendly location. With a And at $20. for one day and $30. for all 3 , you can’t beat it. And that includes the catalog. Do Not Pass Up the seminars though. The collecting seminars especially, will give you an education you cannot get anywhere else. Help make your enjoyment of and purchasing of photographs richer experience. Truly.

Now based on a grid system, each booth is more open and accessible, plus you can pan and scan in your initial walk through and then know exactly which images are calling out to you.[photopress:walkabout.jpg,full,centered]
This could/should be the year that you buy the photograph you’ve been thinking about.
OR….there are some great book sellers from around the world to satisfy your hardcover needs.

( Saw something at ModernBooks, pictured here, that made the wallet shake)

And you should consider these books as collectibles also, as they are made in usually pretty small runs. Saw one Man Ray book for $10,000. USD (betcha you could get it for $9,800 if you haggled). I am truly amazed at what some of the books we have are worth. Not that they would ever be sold.

The overall vibe to the show is BIG.
Big Prints,

Big Books.

Just Big.Overall.

Don’t worry, the classics are all here. In the proper size.

Treat yourself to discover some new talent across the street also at a portfolio review. Housed in a quansit hut across the street, see if your eye has the touch to pick out the next Loretta Lux. Or Edward Weston. Or Ansel Adams. Or David LaChapelle. Or, if you’re really lucky, Andreas Gursky.

At every one of these Art Fairs, we like to pick out one or two stand outs. Friday is our big walkabout, so we’ll see what we can see and share with you in the coming days.

But we can’t say enough about the space. The light was perfect. Respectful, almost
Well done Stephen Cohen. Yep, he is the man responsible for this. And has been for all of these years.

Oh, and no opening night event is complete without some delicious goodies. Of course the best restaurants in town, served up the main courses, but a sweet dessert got my vote. Its a sorbet float with a hint of vanilla and a berry sorbet added. From a place called MILK in Los Angeles. Yum.
The proprietors asked me if the treat reminded me of my childhood.
Honestly, I think there are so many things that do that, and I incorporate them into my life constantly.

Details on the event can be found here.

By the way, you can view last years PhotoLA video right here.

Now that wasn’t the only event of the night. We’ll let you know where we were off to next, tomorrow.

Cheers!
