Weekly Giveaway – Time To Make A Little More Room On The Bookshelf

The photograph tells the story. Everytime.
It’s not the articles, musings, reviews. They may help explain a modus operandi, a back story, a behind-the-scenes look.
Last week at the Hammer museum in Westwood California, Larry Fink regaled us with the tales of his life. We learned about the town he lives in, his politics, his family.
The background he gave us to some of the images, open a whole other level of understanding of the photograph.

But Do You Want That?
[photopress:04023.jpg,full,alignright] Photographs of his I’ve known for years, have a new meaning. Richer? Or redefined? That’s the double edged sword of a lecture by any artist.
The Mona Lisa back story has been researched for centuries, but it doesn’t change the power of that small painting, only perhaps, enhances it’s history.
The point is that experiencing a photographers work, before hearing their history, allows you to bring your own life, and story to the work. And as in any great work of art, the ones that let the viewer in at the deepest human chord, reach the largest audience.

So…..this week we have a book by Larry Fink so you can explore his work in the privacy of your chosen surroundings.
It’s freshly signed. Over 50 duotone prints, and layed out the way we like it: one photo to a page. Guess what’s on the opposite page? A commentary on the image. Best of both worlds I guess.
Just look at the photographs first.
They may be all the commentary you need.
