What he leaves is a unique legacy that celebrates photography on every level.

A photojournalist by trade, he founded the ICP in 1974. It brought, and continues to bring, to the public a home to the images of the world on display and in an immense archive.

A famed Magnum photographer, brother of Robert Capa, he said ” “I am not an artist, and I never intended to be one,” he wrote in the 1992 book “Cornell Capa: Photographs.” “I hope I have made some good photographs, but what I really hope is that I have done some good photo stories with memorable images that make a point, and, perhaps, even make a difference.”

And he leaves not just his photographs, but an organization presenting the best in photography past , present, and future.

ICP is a place always on the list when I visit NY, the house that Capa built is a strong one with brilliant curators in place that never fail to inspire and teach me with every exhibit.
