Before you print your digital file on your inkjet printer……

A little photo news.

[photopress:Kodak_advertisement.jpg,full,centered]

Kodak announced today that it is laying off 3000 people in its continued conversion from a film company to a digital imaging company. See the story

Now the interesting part, and yes unfortunate part, is that as I was looking for a good article to link you to, there was an embarrassment of choices And they were from 2005,2004,2003,1984,1982.

So it’s not new news. Of course major corps. restructure all the time. Yes, the digital age in photography has hastened these moves.

Does the Kodak brand still mean the same to you ?

Whether it does or not…never forget what this company did for photographic art, and memories everywhere. For over 100 years.

Tri-X, Kodachrome 64, and Dektol were some of my favorite words.

I guess Lexar, Epson and Hahnemuhle have replaced them.

But you know what ? My Tri-X negatives from ..ahem..a few years ago are still good. They never were erased digitally, nor stored on a hard drive that crashed.

Makes you think.

Well, I’m off to scan a neg for old times sake, work on it in the digital darkroom called Photoshop, and go into my digital printing area , the Epson 2400, and luxuriate in printing in the light instead of under a red light.

Do I miss the chemistry, enlargers, dryers, et al? Not really.

I’ll always fondly remember them, though.

Cheers!
