Weekly Giveaway – It’s a good day to try.

This week we offer the companion book from the show last year of “Unknown Weegee” at the International Center of Photography. Details at the bottom of this article.

Hopefully he is not unknown to you. Born Arthur Fellig, Weegee was the ultimate tabloid news photographer. His work has recently been enjoying a reexamination and discovery of his true creative genius and contributions. And in this volume you also get the perspective of Paul Strand and Ralph Steiner on his work. I know, not who you would expect, but there you have it. (If you are not familiar with these photographers, click on their names for more info.)

From a collection of almost 20,000 prints, ICP put together this exhibit of his rarely seen work.

interesting clip of Weegee in conversation with Peter Sellers discussing the origin of his name:

Still curious? Check out this. Or this book:[photopress:B5484.jpg,full,alignright] . Did you know that Danny DeVito played a character loosely based on him in LA Confidential?

And the folks at ICP have been very busy with many other projects you should know about. Check out the NEWSLETTER for more info. And more giveaways.

Sign up and on Weds. @ 9:00 AM PST, and email will arrive in your inbox with the details on getting this book (and more) for free. Truly.

We’ve been giving away items that are not listed here and are only available to the NEWSLETTER subscribers. So what are you waiting for? Come on in! Your odds of winning are pretty darn good.

Cheers!
Damon Webster
